Malayalam film industry is dominated by super stardom for past few centuries. Mammootty and Mohanlal have obtained an unclaimed crown and never stepped down. Though Suresh Gopi too came to be known by the name super star the position soon declined for he could not make strong position in the industry. Those actors who can perform any role in films with out difficulty are known as super stars and Mammootty and Mohanlal are examples. Mohanlal used to do every role easily where as Mammootty made humor a success only very recently. It was through box office hit film ‘Rajamanikyam’ that Mammootty proved to do comedy roles easily. Suresh Gopi gained the heart of viewers through a single film called ‘Commissioner’ where he performed as an IPS Officer. The trend of super stardom has almost ruined Malayalam films for the admirers of super stars decide the story of the film in which these super stars act. There are Associations and Fans clubs for these super stars. The issue became big with the climax scene of film ’Harikrishnan’s’. As the issue became worse two climax scenes where shot and one in which Mohanlal gains the mind of heroine where shown in places with more Mohanlal fans and in places of Mammooty fans the scene was like he wins the heroine. Now it is like they decide the future of malayalam industry. Thus the time has come for super stars either to step out of the position or this will ruin Malayalam film industry itself.

Amma v. Thilakan: Is this a fair fight?

One of the veteran actors of Malayalam film industry, Thilakan was dismissed from Association of Malayalam movie artists (AMMA) a few days ago. This was in relation to his comments against some of his co stars and association. Thilakan who used to do major roles in Malayalam films complains that the industry is under the control of certain actors and he is not given due consideration by AMMA which is meant for the welfare of artists. AMMA is of the stand that the statement made by Thilakan before media was not fair and if he had any complaints he was to give it to association and thus solve the issue. He was dismissed on grounds of indiscipline and this decision came after a meeting of film organizations executive committee and this senior actor. Thilakan appeared before the committee after several days and gave his explanation for what happened. He was of the stand that the committee is not ready to consider actual situation but is just trying to throw him out. But Innocent the president of film association says that the executive committee is not satisfied with the explanation given by the actor and he is not ready to apologies while his act proves to be indiscipline. Though he is out of rolls of AMMA he can continue to act in films. Thilakan is about to question the authority of executive committee to remove some one from role and is to approach the court in case there is no authority.

Cochin Haneefa is a well-known comedian and Malayalam actor. Cochin Haneefa was passed way on Feb 2nd 2010. His sudden absence created huge depression in Malayalam film lovers. All mallus who loves Malayalam movies will remember him for ever. We cannot forget his famous slang “Ashaane”. He started his carrier as in negative roll and slowly turned out be comedian. He also had done a very good character role. He proved him self a very good director. As a filmmaker he was critically acclaimed for the melodrama “Valtsalyam”. We cannot forget his role in “Mannar mathai speeking” , “Kereedam”, “Punjabi House” etc. Nobody knows his actual name - Salim Ahmed Ghoush , He was so popular in his stage name. He was a member of the famed comedy troupe "Cochin Kalabhavan", the members of which also included Jayaram, Kalabhavan Mani, Harisree Ashokan, Salim Kumar, and Bindhu Panicker. He made his film debut in 1979 in a small role in “Ashtavakran” and went on to act in over 300 films in Malayalam. He also directed around 20 films, including Valsalyam and Moonu Masangalkku Munbu. He acted in latest Vijay’s tamil movie “Vettaikaran”. His last movie in Malayalam is Body Guard.

Great malayalam actor Murali passed away

Great Malayalam actor Sri. Murali passed away. He was great actor and politician and theator personality.

Murali got his first Kerala State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Amaram, directed by filmmaker Bharathan. He later went on to win the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his role in Aadharam. Murali again won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his powerful portrayal of Appumestri in Neythukaran, directed by Priyanandanan. The same role won him the National Film Award for Best Actor for the year 2002.
